My Role at BCS
I am an associate in the tax and client advisory services departments, where I work primarily with individuals and small businesses. In addition to preparing tax returns, I assist clients with a variety of business-oriented tasks including bookkeeping, accounts payable, and payroll. Helping clients keep the accounting side of their businesses running smoothly is one of my favorite aspects of my job.
Education and Experience
Accounting is a second career for me. I earned a BA in English from Bowling Green State University in 1999 and an MA, also in English, from SUNY Buffalo in 2003. I taught English at SUNY Buffalo for nearly a decade, as well as at D’Youville College for a couple of years, before escaping the frigid winters and moving back home to Kingsport.
After moving back to East Tennessee, I changed course and worked as a full charge bookkeeper for a local online retailer. Eventually I decided to return to school to study accounting and graduated from ETSU with a BBA in 2021. I interned with BCS in 2021 and have been working here full time since the beginning of 2022. I’m halfway through the CPA exam and expect to receive my license this year.
Community Involvement and Personal Notes
I used to be an avid hiker and camper, but I’ve developed allergies, so now I load up on Zyrtec and throw a ball around the back yard for my rescue dog, Ollie. He has behavior issues, so I spend a lot of my free time working with him (or cleaning up the astounding number of items he decides to chew up). I also enjoy reading, crafting, and cooking. And if you need an extra person for game night, I’m your gal.
