IRS Warns of Phone Scam

thiefThe Internal Revenue Service issued a warning today about phone scams targeting taxpayers all over the country, including recent immigrants.  Targets of the scam are told they owe money to the IRS, and are harshly threatened if they refuse to cooperate.  The victims are told they must pay with credit card, pre-loaded debit cards, or wire transfers.

Remember the IRS will never call and ask for credit card, debit card or wire transfer information over the phone.

If you have received a call like this, you should call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.  The IRS employees at that line should be able to help you with any payment issues.  More information is available at the IRS website at this link.
