Individuals and businesses that have filed tax returns with the state of South Carolina since 1998 need to be aware that the SC Department of Revenue is reporting exposure of 3.6 million social security numbers, 387,000 credit and debit cards, and 657,000 business tax filings.

The state is offering businesses fraud monitoring by Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. at no charge. Business credit reports are available to impacted businesses through Experian.

The state is providing individuals with the opportunity to sign up for Experian’s identity theft program designed to detect, protect and resolve problems. This service includes daily monitoring of all three credit bureaus for one year, with access to agents and services beyond the first year.
