  • Week 11 – Girls, Inc.

    by Kendra Hopson

    From Jacqueline Shade:

Last week the firm made a donation to be a sponsor for this year’s annual Girls, Inc. of Johnson City/ Washington County Garden Party Fundraiser.  BCS is proud to be a sponsor of their annual fundraiser because the positive impact they are having on young girls in our community. The money raised at this event will support the after school and summer programs main purpose which is to provide a place for girls to meet and learn in a safe environment.  As the Girls, Inc. mission statement says “Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold”,  this local chapter has been making a difference in our community for over 60 years.  Serving as a board member has allowed me to see firsthand that the staff, under the direction of Terri Knapp, are not there simply to get a paycheck.  They really LOVE THEIR JOB!!!  We are very lucky that the girls in our community have access to a program like Girls, Inc.

  • Week 10 – Chasing Snakes

March 15, 2011 by Kendra Hopson

The Chasing Snakes 10k Road Race and 4k Walk were held last Saturday in downtown Johnson City.  Several members of the BCS family walked or ran in this event.  BCS was also a sponsor.   Congratulations to Cay Greer who won first place for women over 40!

Chasing Snakes benefits the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Johnson City (IHNJC).  The IHNJC provides a network of local churches and community agencies to promote a community response for homeless families with children.  They provide counseling, job search, educational goals, shelter and food.

Members of the BCS Audit Department, Jacqueline Shade, Siena Rambo and Rachel Squibb participated in the 4k Fitness Walk.

March 10, 2011 by Kendra Hopson

The Child Advocacy Center of the 3rd Judicial District is located in Greeneville, and serves the counties of Greene, Hamblen, Hancock and Hawkins.  Their mission statement is  ”Using our hearts and our hands, we can make a difference in the lives of children.”  They assist and coordinate support services for the victims of child abuse and neglect, as well as providing a place for investigations, accompaniment on medical exams and referrals, therapy, victim services, and community awareness and involvement.

We collected toys, individual serving sizes of food and snacks, books, movies and a TV/VCR for the CAC in addition to the monetary donation we raised within the firm.

  • Week 8 – Children’s Advocacy Center of Sullivan County

March 8, 2011 by Kendra Hopson

The mission of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Sullivan County is to “combat child sexual and severe physical abuse by coordinating and providing services to children and families in a crisis in a safe, caring environment.” The CAC provides counseling, medical exams, protection services and other services to children who have been physically or sexually abused. Sullivan County had 715 cases for abuse open at the end of 2009. That statistic does not count the number of cases open for neglect.

We were able to raise enough money amongst ourselves to buy a Wii game system and an extra remote, in addition to the donated toys, television, books, and movies.

CAC Director Gena Frye with BCS partner Chuck Huffman.
